Favorite Road Food: coffee with espresso with coffee....chased by more espresso
Ya…look out....he will pump you up and make you groove so much you will want to
eat protein bars with espresso at 3am in the morning. What can you say about this
guy, other than…it...is..ALIVE! Rob brings a great sound and intensity to the band.
This guy is ready to go 24 hours a day and has the heart of a Creole musician. And
that's because he is one as he's a Bequette on his mother's side of the family. The
Bequette’s are a French Creole family in southern IL and southeast Missouri. After
working for many years as a geologist and GIS guru, Rob transitioned into a full-time
music career. Besides being a member of Creole Stomp and L’Esprit Creole, he
teaches guitar and bass lessons at the Community Center for the Arts (www.c-4a.org)
in Urbana, IL. He also plays honky-tonk, blues and western swing music with the
Backyard BBQ Band. An avid traveler, Rob started making trips to Louisiana several
years ago to attend Jazzfest New Orleans. While at Jazzfest, he learned about the
Dewey Balfa Cajun and Creole Heritage Week; best described as a total immersion
into Cajun and Creole culture. Known as “Balfa camp,” these week-long experiences
provide insight into the musical, cultural, linguistic and culinary nuances that define
southwest Louisiana. Since that time, Rob has attended several Balfa camps, and he’
ll jump at the chance to go to Louisiana to jam, dance and eat gumbo. He’s also very
enthusiastic about the French culture of upper Louisiana, particularly since his
Bequette family roots go back to 1714.
